What Is Email Marketing?
Email marketing is the process of commercial electronic mail communication sent in order to reach a defined audience with email addresses and increase customer loyalty and sales, or convey information.
According to some research, email marketing is shown to be the tool with the highest return on investment in digital marketing. The reason is that you can reach thousands — even millions — of people who already know you and are on your list, at reasonable cost.
Although email marketing is the oldest digital marketing channel, it is a communication channel that has adapted to innovation and holds many technologies within it. Well-constructed email marketing that is personalised, segmented, measurable in detail, intriguing and useful to the customer produces excellent results.
Why Does Email Marketing Matter? What Are Its Advantages?
- Email is one of the most widely used digital communication tools.
- Email marketing is the most effective tool for building long-term relationships with your customers and prospects.
- 80% of users check their email address at least once a day.
- It is regarded as the most effective channel for B2B (business-to-business) marketing.
- With email marketing you can segment your customers by their behaviour, their demographics and every kind of data.
- Email service providers let you track results such as opens, clicks and conversions for a sent email.
- You can optimise the efficiency of email marketing based on consumers' behavioural factors.
- Based on your pre-defined "trigger" conditions — that is, with automation models — it can save you time and money while increasing revenue and customer experience.
- It lets you run personalised campaigns and activities that make your customers feel special.
- It lets you send beautifully designed dedicated emails and add links for engagement.
- It lets you send dynamic (variable) emails. You can therefore make personalised product recommendations and offers, run abandoned basket follow-ups and cross-sell activities.
- You can send emails according to your customers' reading habits (such as the hour they read email most).
- By running A/B tests you can measure which emails perform better and send accordingly.
Note: the items mentioned are among the core features of many service providers. If you have decided to work with an email service provider you can ask whether these features are present.
Service Providers You Can Use for Email Marketing
Working with a service provider with strong infrastructure, usability and data analytics takes you a few steps forward. Before deciding to work with an email service provider, open a demo account and make sure you can comfortably create and send an email without help from anyone. As a second step, once you are sure you can build segments and set up automatic sending on your own without needing documentation — or with only simple documentation — I recommend starting work with the provider and then taking a short training session.
Our aim here is for the provider's panel to be user-friendly. Otherwise emails cannot get beyond bulk sending, or they can waste a great deal of time.
Although there are many email marketing service providers, I am including some of them in the list.
